Getting To Northern Yuraygir

If your preferred walk is based in Northern Yuraygir, there are three main travel options (see details below map):

  1. Drive in a private vehicle, or from a nearby airport with a hire car.
  2. Travel to Yamba by shuttle, train or coach.
  3. Fly to one of two regional airports and arrange further transit from there (some further pick up costs may apply).

1: Drive

If you intend driving your car, or wish to hire a vehicle from a regional airport (see 3 below), you can drive all the way to your accommodation in Yamba or Brooms Head, where you should be able to safely leave your vehicle for the duration of the tour. Driving to the Yamba/Brooms Head area takes approximately 3.0 hours from Brisbane, or 2.5 hours from the Gold Coast.

2: Bus/Train to Yamba

Brisbane to Yamba Tours (ph: 0423 948 427) offer regular shuttle bus services to Yamba from Roma Street Bus and Train Terminal and Brisbane Airport.

Greyhound Coaches (ph: 1300 473 946) and Premier Motor Service (Phone 13 34 10) has bus services to nearby Maclean that operate north to Brisbane and south to Sydney, stopping at most towns and cities in between.

Busways, (ph: (02) 6645 8941) operate regular services from Maclean to Yamba, Iluka and Angourie.

Countrylink (Ph: 13 22 32) has train services that operate to Grafton from Sydney and Brisbane (stopping at most towns and cities in between), with a connecting bus service to Iluka.

3: Fly to a Regional Airport

There are two regional airports at varying distances from Northern Yuraygir. Depending on where you fly into, there are additional time and cost considerations to be aware of related to further transit: increasing distances mean increasing travel time and associated transit costs, some of which we need to recover. You therefore may wish to prioritize and organise travel plans with regard to airport proximity and transit costs where possible.

Regional Express (REX) Airlines currently provide afternoon flights to Grafton (arriving at about 4:30pm, subject to change – see current flight timetables). Pickup/transit options: We can pick you up and transport you to your accommodation for $30/head with a minimum of 4 passengers, $45/head with a minimum of 2 passengers, or $60 for a single individual. We can advise if there are other passengers on the same flight.

1.25 hrs north of Yamba, 2 hours north of Minnie Water. There are several daily flights (Jetstar, REX, QANTAS or Virgin – see current flight information). Pickup/transit options: There are commercial pick up services for Yamba Airport ShuttleWe can pick up from Ballina Airport for $50/head with a minimum of 4 passengers, $60/head with a minimum of 2 passengers, or $100 for a single individual. We can advise if there are other passengers on the same flight.

Depending on the size of the group travelling together, it may be economical to hire a vehicle at Ballina or Coffs Harbour Airports and drive to Minnie Water, returning the vehicle at the end of the tour.

  • Fly into Grafton airport if possible on the afternoon before your walk (depending on your accommodation arrangements – specific arrival requirements are described for each walk)
  • Arrange to travel with your group wherever possible and,
  • Tell us your travel plans as early as possible or discuss with us what others might be doing to help us to maximise group travel.

We will return you to Grafton town centre, train station or airport without additional cost on the morning of your departure day. If you are returning home via to Ballina-Byron Airport, we can organise a commercial pick up for you with Yamba Airport Shuttle.
